Happy Friday Friends!
It really has been a challenging couple of weeks for most of the world. COVID-19 has taken the lives of thousands and is also impacting the economy in big ways. Businesses and schools are closing at a rapid pace, There’s tons of conspiracy theories rolling around, lots of people who are stockpiling supplies, some are in a mode of panic while others think that this all overblown.
No matter where you stand, I think we can all agree it’s affecting us on some level.
For many, that’s coming in a form of anxiety. Anxiety from lack of money. Anxiety from not having enough supplies. Social Distancing anxiety. Trying to work from home while your kids are home, anxiety…. Anxiety from stress or fear…
My dear friend, Psychotherapist, Sherile Turner, started a CoronaVirus Anxiety Group on Facebook and she’s been dropping tips daily on how to mentally and emotionally get through these murky times.
She posted a tip the other day that I wanted to share with the collective this week to help us all stay more grounded in a time of what could be seen as chaos.
Sherile writes:
“Anxiety affects all of us – it’s a natural part of the human function. Often we don’t know that we are feeling anxious, but if you notice unstoppable ‘what if’ thoughts, stomach churning or even intense anger – you may be experiencing anxiety.
✨
Staying present and away from the catastrophic future that your mind is wandering into, will relieve those symptoms.
✨
Try this simple trick it will help you to feel grounded and return your thoughts and feelings to the present moment
✨
Notice 5 things that you can hear
✨
Notice 4 things that you can smell
✨
Notice 3 things that you can feel
✨
Notice 2 things that you see
✨
Notice one thing that you can taste.”
How simple is that?
Grounding yourself comes in many forms, but it’s important to remember that no matter what is happening in our external world, you are in control of your body and mind.
If you’re on Facebook, check out the CoronaVirus Anxiety Group for conversation and actionable tips to reduce and ease anxiety.
I’d love for you to reach out to me and let me know how I can aid you during the pandemic or – let me know what you’re doing to stay calm and grounded. Sharing tips and stories, helps us all feel less alone.
If you enjoyed today’s episode, share it with a friend or screenshot that you’re listening, post it on social media and tag me in it – I’m everywhere @mindbizlife
That’s all for today, I’ll see you next week and until then remember: every level of life is an opportunity to grow. Be well my friend.
