00:00 Hey, what’s up? Its fuel your life Friday. Let’s go.
00:09 What it do, y’all?! Happy Fuel Your Life Friday. Thanks for tuning in. I have a little challenge for you this week and I hope that you’ll join in.
00:17 Today’s what’s known as Black Friday. If you’re wild enough to go out into those crowds who let the force be with you, I have Black Friday shopped more than once in my life. But as I grow older, the less I really like crowds. So something has to be really worth it for me to go out and shop anymore on a Black Friday. But there is a day this weekend that I can get down with when it comes to shopping.
00:41 That would be, Small Business Saturday; Small Business Saturday was actually started in 2010 by American Express. And I’ve heard that American Express card holders get an additional rewards when they shop small this Saturday, but I find the general stats way more rewarding. So with 28 points 8 million small businesses in the US alone. Small businesses make a big impact in our economy. And according to the Seattle good business network, small businesses donate 250% more than larger businesses, to nonprofits and community causes and research from it is that if you spend $100 at a local business, roughly $68 stays in your local economy. And if you spend the same and a large business, only $43 stays in the local economy.
01:34 My challenge to you this weekend is to shop small well if you’re on the hunt for a gift for that special someone, hit some local boutiques or store friends to help support them. If you’re getting gifts for your kids, teachers or something similar to that you just need something small, skip Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, and get a gift card from a local coffee shop or cafe. And Heck, if you feel like You have worked hard and you deserve a little something, something for yourself, you do that. Just keep it small.
02:07 I’m personally going to support three small businesses this weekend, I’m going to purchase some homemade soap from a local woman that I know it’s going to be great for a little teachers gifts just added in there; I’m also going to hit up my daughter’s favorite local restaurant and support them, we have to always go to what’s called Long Doggers for some amazing food. And I’m going to buy a service from one of my podcast guests, actually, that I’ve been wanting to purchase for myself for a while.
02:37 Again, I’m supporting three small businesses and three different ways.
02:41 Remember that shopping and supporting small businesses doesn’t always have to be products, okay? It can be services too.
